Here are some tips:

Remember to follow the steps for a successful paraphrasing.

Apply the “double check rule.” Return to the original material to confirm you used your own words.

It is extremely important for you to do lots of research, that means, READ, READ and READ all the necessary sources so that you find interesting information about your hero.

Once you believe it is finished: pass SPELL CHECK,

Re read the whole biography to see that there are no repetitions.

Please avoid erasing other peer's contribution. Leave a polite comment.

Remember to write short sentences and include full stops and capital letters after them.

Her father refuses to let him marry her, though, unless Lopaka can bring him two feather cloaks from a rare bird. While searching the mountains for the bird, Lopaka encounters a dying priest of Pele who sells him a wishing bottle in which Kono, the god of the volcanos, is confined. The priest warns him of the dangers of the bottle: if he dies still owning it, he will be damned, and the only way to get rid of it is to sell it for a price smaller than was paid for it. Keawe agrees and wishes to be rich, then marries Kokua and sells the bottle. All is well until Keawe contracts leprosy. To get rid of it, he must acquire the bottle again, and he is forced to buy it for the smallest coin of the realm! To save her husband's soul, Kokua is ready to sacrifice herself by buying the bottle for a smaller French coin. Fortunately, a wicked sailor appears with a still smaller Chinese coin and becomes its final owner when the bottle is lost at sea. Keawe's wealth vanishes, but he is happy to be with Kokua.

Strategies to understand difficult texts

Whenever you come across a difficult text, you mustn't feel discouraged and give up!

These techniques might help you!

Here are some strategies for you to follow. They might help you understand better and clearly, what you read :

Adjust your reading speed for a better comprehension. You might have to read at a slower pace.

Try summarizing after one or two paragraphs to check how much you have understood.

You might also want to paraphrase what you have read: that means to say, to express in your own words what you have comprehended.

Underline key words.

Write main ideas at the sides of the paragraph: such as character description, setting, conflict, and so on.

Reading a Fantasy Story during Easter Break

This is a very short story called The Dear Little Ghost by Elia W. Peattie. You need to read it for April 26th (6A & 6B) April 27th (6C). It's very short but you might need to read it twice if you do not understand it the first time.

Should school cancel pizza and or hamburger lunches? Why or why not? They will no longer be serving Whoppers at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, after the fast-food restaurant closed down in the food court there last Saturday. Canada’s largest hospital for children made the choice to close down the Burger King because of its unhealthy options such cheeseburgers and French fries, which are high in fat and salt. The hospital is meant to offer healthy food choices for the visitors and staff. A doctor at Sick Kids named Vishal Avinashi started a Facebook group called, “Burger King should NOT be allowed to operate at Sick Kids Hospital.” There are 265 members in the group, and more are joining each day. Avinashi tried to raise awareness of the messages that the hospital is sending by offering unhealthy options. He says the hospital is, “setting the wrong example” by allowing fast-food restaurants to sell unhealthy food there. Since child obesity rates are at an all-time high in Canada, having an unhealthy, fast-food restaurant didn’t match the hospital’s goals of fostering healthy eating. Even though Burger King was closed down, the food court at Sick Kids still offers options such as Pizza Pizza. On the Facebook group, members are now pushing for these unhealthy options to also be closed down as well.
